Copenhagen trip

Nyhavn at night

On arrival in the afternoon at our Airbnb host located in the hip district Vesterbro we felt hungry. Our lovely host recommended a perfect place to go: the streetfood district of paper island. The beautiful path alongside the canal took us about an hour but with the sunny weather we enjoyed it a lot. You can really find deliciacies from all cultures. Korean , japanese, mexican, brazilian, thai, turkish, italian and of course danish cuisine. We decided for turkish bread with meat and bulgur – great meal for about 17 Euros. Not really cheap but Kopenhagen is not  a bargain. That’s what you have to be aware of when you travel to Kopenhagen. What’s nice about this food market is the unconventional atmosphere. People from all walks of life come together.

Mad & KaffeAmalienborgThe marble churchThe little mermaid42 Raw

The next day we went for breakfast to Mad & Kaffe. This is a nice cafe and you have a big choice of food and drinks. Unfortunately this insider tip is also well known to tourists and you have to come early in the morning and better during the week as space is limited. Full and satisfied we then took the canal bus for our sightseeing program. First we stopped to see the change of guards at Amalienborg which took place exactly at noon. Quite nice to see, similar to the change of guards at Buckingham palace in London. Our next stop was the marble church next to Amalienborg which is really worth to see. By foot we went to see the little mermaid and then we dived into Strøget, the main pedestrian shopping street in Kopenhagen. You can have a break at 42 Raw at reasonable prices. The rest of the day we strolled along the city and found ourselves in one or another shop.

GranolaPaper Island – Street foo

NyhavnChristianshavn

We started the third day with a rich and varied breakfast at Granola, just around the corner where we were located. This day the sightseeing program included the round tower, the royal palace and garden of Rosenborg, the waterfront district Nyhavn with its nice colourful houses that is very often seen on postcards to end up in Christianshavn. Here you can climb the tower of Frelsers Kirke and enjoy the phantastic view over the city, however you should really have a head for heights as the stairs are steep and in the upper part the stairs are outside the tower. From there we went to the free city Christiania, an alternative residential and lawless area. You are not allowed to take any photo and luckily my smartphone was not taken from me while I took some pictures as I was not informed about that before.

Our last day started just as the days before with my most important meal : breakfast. You will get a delicious pain au chocolat and a latte at Cafe Dyrehavn. As our flight back was early in the afternoon we decided to spend the remaining time in Vesterbro and stroll along the small streets. I found some cool Vintage shops and stylish interior shops. We had a last meal at the meatpacking district as Saturdays you can find streetfood in the Kodbyen area. But also in the evening there is a lot on offer at this place. Copenhagen is definitely worth to be visited and once you are there don’t miss to pass by this area.
